the average going price for this product is $50.-$60. the price quoted herein of $600. is so far beyond what might be considerable reasonable it’s ludicrous. doesn’t Amazon have any standards for their third party vendors? whether or not you disclaim responsibility for third party suppliers, they do appear on Amazon’s web site, and nothing will prevent Amazon from being associated with such chicanery. allowing such postings is unworthy of Amazon. for a number of years i have held an equity position in Amazon, and fully understand, and generally approve of using additional sources for products your customers want, and i do understand the meaning of caveat emptor, but this is an embarrassment.

After reading that “This item normally ships within 24 hours”, I placed an order for the Motorola Surfboard SB5100 Cable Modem at Amazon.com. Two and a half months later, I still have not received this modem despite multiple automated emails from Amazon warning of delays with this item, but noting that “It is not possible to cancel any items that have already entered the shipping process”. While the note says that I can refuse shipment or return it for a refund, I’ll have to pay shipping costs if I return it for a refund. Amazon staff, whom I’ve contacted by discovering how to go through the maze for communicating them, tell me that the promotional certificate which I used to place this order and has since expired will be credited to my account on my next purchase. TBD.
In my opinion, Amazon’s message “This item normally ships within 24 hours” is misleading. Amazon should replace this message with a more accurate message and permit customers to cancel orders that are in the order queue. Until that happens, Amazon customers should be wary of Amazon’s promises.

I recently called my cable company due to frequent disconnects and they said the log on the modem was telling them I was having spyware, I checked my computers no spyware, checked the modem’s config… and found that it’s having problems of it’s self thinking it’s January 1, 1970… Would never buy this product and am returning mine to the cable company.

Comcast came out to fix a problem back in December and didn’t like my old 3 com? cable modem so they put 1 of these surfboard sb5100 cable modems in line. After having problems for an hour getting it to set up they finally left me with a working modem and I was happy, for a week or so anyway, then my connection was in and out and eventually went out completely in early January. We went through everything and determined the cable modem that they made me replace my old one with was bad so they gave me another one. That worked fine until about a week ago, say about May 12 and then my internet slowed way way down. Tests showed horrible results about 178 KB connections so I called comcast to see if the problem was on their end after making sure it wasn’t my router, wouldn’t you know, another cable modem gone, we reset it per comcast’s request and it never worked again. Unfortunately, they gave us another of the same model which again gave me a major headache to register. It seems faster than the other 2 but I hope it lasts longer or I’ll buy my own and you can bet it won’t have motorola written on it.

My brand new SB5100 didn’t work. With just its power cord hooked up, the power light was flashing on and off. Turns out this means the modem is bad. So I’m returning it for a replacement.
